Kelly Way Gardens

Kelly Way Gardens is Woodstock Inn & Resort’s on-site farm-to-table garden, providing a fresh, seasonal food source grown just steps from our kitchens. Established from the ground up, the garden features over 200 varieties of vegetables, 50+ herbs and edible flowers, 75 varieties of berries and orchard plantings, a mushroom glen, and vibrant cut flower gardens.

Tended by master gardener Benjamin Pauly and his team, the three-acre garden supplies our culinary team with freshly harvested ingredients picked daily often arriving in the kitchen while still warm from the sun. These ingredients inspire our chefs and define the farm-to-table dining experience in Woodstock, Vermont.

Philosophy

Our garden was created with a deep respect for the conservation legacies of Laurance Rockefeller, Frederick Billings, and George Perkins Marsh, guiding our commitment to stewarding the land with care. Through sustainable practices, we grow exceptional, locally rooted produce that reflects the spirit of Woodstock, Vermont.

We use hand cultivation, permaculture methods, and nutrient-dense farming principles to produce the freshest, most flavorful certified organic ingredients for our restaurants, along with flowers that bring natural beauty indoors.

At the heart of our approach is a dedication to improving the land we tend and creating a meaningful connection between the garden and the guest experience—offering a thoughtful, holistic expression of growing with the land.

Location & History

Nestled along the hillside of the Kedron Valley, Kelly Way Gardens is located just one mile south of the Woodstock Inn & Resort and the Village Green on Route 106. Once home to a dairy and horse farm, the land was thoughtfully reimagined in 2013, beginning with a half-acre of fallow pasture. Today, it has grown into a thriving three-acre garden featuring vegetables, fruits, herbs, cut flowers, mushrooms, honeybees, and dedicated gathering spaces.

In 2018, the property expanded to include the beautifully restored 19th-century Red Barns, now home to seasonal events, culinary programming, and immersive gardening experiences.

Visitation

Kelly Way Gardens is open to the public during the summer months and we highly encourage visitors (typically May - October). Experience the garden to see and learn about the working landscape of Vermont. We offer a range of guided tours, tasting events and weekly gardening classes highlighting seasonal cut flowers, sensational produce and "soil under the nails" know how. Please stop on by to enjoy the vivid sights, tastes and smells of the gardens, while chatting with the gardeners in the field. Moseying encouraged.

Accessibility

Kelly Way Gardens offers a natural outdoor setting with a variety of surfaces:

  • The driveway and main garden pathway are packed gravel
  • Additional garden paths are covered in woodchips
  • The outdoor event space is a flat, grass-covered area located at the top of the main pathway
  • The Red Barns feature a ground-level entrance; however, the interior includes rustic flooring with uneven surfaces

If you have specific accessibility needs, we encourage you to contact us in advance so we can assist in planning your visit.

The Red Barns

Completed in 2018, the Red Barns at Kelly Way Gardens are home to our culinary and garden studios — an immersive extension of the Woodstock Inn & Resort dining experience. This unique setting hosts a range of seasonal culinary events, including our signature Red Barn Dinners, where garden-to-table menus highlight ingredients harvested just steps away.

The barns also serve as a gathering place for hands-on classes and garden workshops, offering engaging experiences ideal for groups, private events, and team-building.
